The Ex Convict, Ang Low, embraces his musical prowess with the release of new single “If I Slipped”

Against all the odds, the Brooklyn based singer-songwriter and producer has manufactured an exceptional R&B track by blending momentous topics such as religion and romance with compelling drum beats and synth riffs. Low’s soothing vocal melody throughout this exhilarating single further transcends his musical genius and hones in on the emotional turmoil of making regretful decisions.

Low’s road to this musical greatness has been far from a quiet ride. Low has served a substantial amount of time in jail and suffered hugely from depression during the cold, lonely nights in a prison cell. But Low has been able to use his first-hand account of this traumatic experience into a positive musical outlet. Low says:

“I just wrote songs in my cell every day. I had no clue where to go from there. But the music just kept me sane, writing kept me focused and going. Eventually this mentality just blossomed into an artist.”– Ang Low

Make sure you keep your eyes firmly fixated on Ang Low’s SoundCloud account around mid-late July 2021, as this is when “If I Slipped” will finally be released. This single to me feels like it has been divulged by a seasoned musician with decades of experience, whereas Low has only been on the scene for a number of years. He is an up and coming artist you will not want to miss!

Words by Aidan Whelband

A voice that needs to be heard, Israel Nkeki’s prepares us for his debut single ‘Moonlight’.

Israel Nkeki is set to release his powerful and emotive debut single ‘Moonlight’ on 20th June. The soulful track is poetic, using hard hitting lyricism that depicts Israel’s real life experiences.

Israel Nkeki’s upbringing, to put it simply, was one of a kind. A childhood spent in the gospel choirs of Benin City (Nigeria), but marred by family conflict and constant fighting. As a result a young Israel emigrated to New Cross (London), a lost teenager who found himself spiralling into a life on the streets and eventually prison. Fortunately Israel turned his life around, served his sentence and put his pain into the pursuit of a music career.

With life experience worthy of 100 films Israel Nkeki’s music depicts a rich tapestry that tells his life story. His tracks are soulful, emotive and poetic with hard hitting lyrics that tell it how it really is. His debut single ‘Moonlight’, due for release on 20th June, tells of how our split second decisions can have a profound impact on those around you.

‘Moonlight’ is a contemporary R&B track is full of feeling and soul, we can’t wait for the world to hear it on 20th June.

Christian hip-hop duo Go2 to release new single ‘Nothin On You’

Go2 (Lerish and Vizun, aka. Rick and Dale) combine hip-hop with Christian praise and worship to create a powerful musical outfit. Go2 caught the attention of the rights campaigner and political leader Jesse Jackson, and shortly thereafter they were requested to come and perform in Chicago at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition Headquarters run by Jackson and in support of civil rights and social justice.  They have been building a large support base since then: they were nominated for Best Holy Hip Hop Artist at 2009 Gospel Choice Awards, have topped the Christian charts and have even shared a stage with Ludacris.

The duo met in church where Rick was a worship leader and Dale was a minister in training and sound engineer. They formed a friendship out of the mutual ambition to make hip-hop primarily but also because their faith was so important to them and music felt like a great way of expressing their feelings towards God and the ones they loved. Go2 believe that Jesus has blessed them with an ability to make unique music, which can help to spread their message.

About “Nothin On You”

I wrote this song with a very simple message in mind, nothing can nor should take the place of God in your life. I didn’t write this song to be against having fun or any of that, I wrote it because I myself had let things like money, houses, career and other materialistic things become more important to me than God. The first verse of this song is about a guy who came to a cross road in his life, in a night club, and realized that the things that he looked for to bring him joy no longer worked. He needed something more. I feel this song is very relatable because I think we’ve all had that eye opening point in our lives where we said, “there’s got to be more to life than this. “  This song has a very danceable beat; it reminds me of the famous line-dance style culture. Some songs that were very popular in this same vein are The Macarena, The Cha-Cha slide, The Wobble, The Cupid Shuffle and
The Electric Slide.  What sets this song apart from the pack is the universal, relatable message embedded in this urban contemporary hit.

From Beenie Man to Giggs; the story of Rising R&B star Alyssa English

[youtube=http://youtu.be/A26vUi5yY1c]

Alyssa English will release her debut single on May 16th ahead of her forthcoming EP called ‘Girlfriend’, to be released May 26th.

Alyssa English is starting to be very well known in UK R&B circles. She has collaborated with dancehall giants Beenie Man and Maxi Priest and also recorded a track with the Award winning UK rapper Giggs, which will be on her forthcoming EP. Given the calibre of these artists and the fact that Alyssa is only a modest 18 years old, she’s definitely one to watch.

Alyssa was born in New York but later moved to Canada where she grew up in a world of music. Not only was she personally passionate but it ran in her family, as they were also musically oriented. Her uncle is in fact soul singer and songwriter Sam Dees, who wrote tracks for legends like Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston and George Benson.

Whilst Alyssa can play piano and flute (just to mention a couple), it was learning to sing that her talents were spotted by her then vocal coach. One thing lead to another and her coach put her in touch with Kofi  management where William Kofi went on to become her manager, who could see the potential in Alyssa’s voice. From then on she knew that a career in music was the only way she was going to go. At the age of 15 she took the bold decision to move to the UK to follow her musical ambitions, and it seems that this was definitely the right choice! This was actually what influenced the ‘Girlfriend’ track.

Alyssa’s title EP track ‘Girlfriend’ takes a lot musically from the likes of Jason Derulo, JoJo and other R&B stars. In making the track, Alyssa came together with top industry producer Livingstone Brown (Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Shakira), who also helped to co-write the EP, Mike Stephens (Musical Director for Take That) and Luke Smith (an infamous session musician who’s worked with the likes of George Michael to Chaka Khan) for the final product.

Having completed a tour of UK schools so far, she is destined for bigger things with this new release so make sure to keep an eye out! Watch the video for the lead track ‘Girlfriend’ here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A26vUi5yY1c
