Youth Illusion Are Sending Shock Waves Through the Alternative Scene With Energetic New EP

Alternative rock band Youth Illusion arrive to the scene armed with insane guitar riffs, drums, and impassioned vocals that mix in a bit of screamo, in true Bring Me The Horizon fashion.  Their latest single ‘Blood On My Hands’, which is part of their six track EP ‘Seeking Answers in Silence’, combines punk energy and an emotional core. ‘Seeking Answers in Silence’ is set for release on 25 March 2022 and with the talent that is demonstrated in ‘Blood On My Hands’ it will be an unmissable EP.

The four piece band, with members from South Africa, Italy, the UK, and the US, are united by the music that inspired them yet they attain a completely new and unique sound. The influence of artists such as Green Day, Rise Against and Biffy Clyro is evident yet Youth Illusion have managed to take the sounds that so many of us love and transform them into the refreshing music that can be heard in all their songs. The heavy style is designed to be heard live, in the centre of a mosh pit, that will keep fans on their toes, yet there is a strong emotional message behind the guitars.

‘Blood On My Hands’ is one of these songs; beginning with strong vocals delivering a passionate message before diving in with the harmony of instruments that create that alternative sound. The growing energy throughout the song is enough to make any sized crowd energetic. Each second brings something new to the song and the result is a fervid experience that is impossible to resist.

Youth Illusion have also released a music video to accompany their new single which perfectly demonstrates the energy and charisma the bandmates have with each other and their instruments. It is easy to imagine the perfectly chaotic atmosphere that the live track would bring. Youth Illusion will certainly send shock waves through the system and audiences can experience their ‘Seeking Answers in Silence’ soon. Or, you can join them on their tour if you want to experience their talents live.

The Fabulous Red Diesel’s ‘The Queensbury House Sessions’ is an incredible modern-soul jazz release

A collective quite unlike any other you’ll come across, The Fabulous Red Diesel are innovative and creating music without a specific label. Quirky and armed with everything you’d want from a ‘soul meets jazz collective’, ‘The Queensbury House Sessions’ is for fans of Madeline Peyroux, Joni Mitchell & even Frank Zappa.

With leading single ‘Butterfly Mind’ telling the tale of how true love remains a constant factor in life, no matter where your mind may drift to. On the release, vocalist Kat Lee-Ryan mentioned, “it’s about the way my brain works and the way music flits from one person to another, changing their perception (hopefully for the better) by tiny inspirational touches. And then it’s also a love song – I am married to the drummer and I’m saying no matter how many twists and turns and expansions my mind has, I am always grounded in him – you know I’ve got a butterfly mind but I settle on you.”

Uplifting and showcasing real potential in the world of soul-jazz and even funk and hip-hop, The Fabulous Red Diesel are a band that should be on everyone’s playlists.

Vanderocker releases new psychedelic indie EP ‘The Good Punk’

Adrienne Vanderocker aka the mastermind behind indie music project Vanderocker returns with an exotic new EP. Titled ‘The Good Punk‘, the EP features four brand-new numbers bathed in psychedelia, indie, electro-pop with experimental touches and one instrumental bonus track.

Touching upon themes of sex, voyeurism and duality, Vanderocker collaborates with producer Brandon Eggleston on the release. With a string of note-worthy guest artists on the EP too – Federico Pol Jr (Joe Cocker), Peter Holmström (The Dandy Warhols, PIA) and Brendan Bond (Black Pumas) all feature on the new release.

An eccentric record which showcases that experimental music is far from over, if anything, it’s still at the beginning of its realm.

On the new soundtrack, Vanderocker states, “In my mind, it’s a basic study of humans on different levels, almost from an Alien National Geographic kind of perspective. ‘Here is Earth, a most beautiful place and here are the alluring creatures who call themselves human beings. Let’s observe them when they are just in their bodies.

Now look how they change when they interact with other groups’ – like a typical lab observation, right? Which is interesting in itself; but then of course, we have to look at how amazingly powerful humans can be when they disengage from the drama and plug into something bigger than themselves. I find comfort in all of it, when I can step back and observe us the way a newcomer might.”

Released via Mint 400 Records, ‘The Good Punk’ is a versatile soundscape with a large amount of vibrance to it’s core. Vanderocker is definitely an artist that you should keep on your playlists from here on out.

Introducing: Mark Shepherd

Mark Shepherd has been a regular on the live circuit for years, playing to audiences in the UK to New York, Texas and San Francisco. Given his ability to move audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, it seems the time is ripe for him to replicate his live success on a general release.

‘The Grand Scheme of Things’ EP is his follow-up from his debut ‘Bad Man’, which made more than a few waves in the folk/country scene, being played on the BBC and community stations across the pond. The new release displays the same flair for storytelling that his fans have come to expect, and will no doubt charm audiences who haven’t yet had the pleasure of hearing the British ‘Tom Petty’.

Unique to ‘The Grand Scheme of Things’ is it’s offer of two distinct aural paths to listeners, with the EP containing both acoustic and electronic versions of each tracks, the perfect choice for an artist whose music is all about mood and emotion. Paired with Shepherd’s whisky soaked vocals, the album displays that quintessential country ability to deliver bittersweet truths in a medium that resonates across demographic boundaries.

The Lightness Of Being Ready For Movements

The Lightness of Being have already been backed by big names in the music industry – they have worked with The Breeders’ engineer Nick Trepka, played with up-and-coming blues rock band Graveltones, and have headlined venues around London. And with the release of ‘Movements’ they’re bound to turn even more heads in 2015. The band came together after Gabriel and Sergio struck up a chance conversation – and despite coming from all walks of life they soon began rehearsing and playing shows in London.

The debut EP “Directions” got heads banging last year, and the amp has been turned up even higher for their three-track release ‘Movements’.

Vidal & Curma have made a name for themselves on the London music scene, having played at some of the most prestigious venues in the city. Now, they are releasing a three-track EP.

The songwriters – who spend their time between their Northern Italian hometown of Padova and the UK’s capital – write on everyday problems. Their song themes vary from the difficulty of maintaining relationships nowadays, where everyone travels and moves a lot (‘Another Plane’), to everyday situations that can lead to deep contemplation (‘Tonight’). The final track, ‘Never Say Again’, is about the unpredictability of meeting someone special in a city like London.

Expansive minimalism from debut Slows Down EP

IMG_2613 bw

Self-titled release is due to land on Feb 11th

Based in London and influenced by a heady cocktail of Swans, Spiritualized, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Radiohead,  60s pop, Middle Eastern classical music and more, Slows Down is the musical pseudonym of multi-talented solo artist Alexander Hawthorne.

A proficient self-taught multi-instrumentalist, he writes music which defies easy categorisation – exploding with multi-cultural ideas and independent in every sense. His debut EP, self-titled, will be available from February 11th, and you can hear an early taster here with ‘The Way Down Leering’:

https://soundcloud.com/slowsdown/the-way-down-leering

Written during spells in India and hitchhiking across the US, the EP is full of heavy themes presented with depth and a full on sound. All the many parts are played by Hawthorne himself, self-recorded and produced into one cohesive unit. But in spite of the broad instrumental strokes, the ideas are simple – minimalist even. It makes for a varied and versatile collection of tracks.

The EP is just the beginning of a longer project, in which Slows Down will continue to experiment in unique and creative ways. A full album will follow the EP, and he intends to bring together a group to perform live next year to perform these tracks in full, live for the first time. Thus far, due to Slows Down’s self-contained methodology, his music has lived in the studio and in recorded form. In spite of those limitations, the music is already getting a lot of positive feedback from previous single releases:

“I’ve grown to appreciate simplicity in music almost above all else. This is why, I think, I’ve fallen quite so hard for Slows Down.” – Matthew Healy, GoldFlakedPaint

“Taking advantage of the no compromise necessary freedom that only a true solo recording allows, as well as the opportunity to really sculpt the sound of these tracks with numerous overdubs and extremely careful manipulation, Hawthorne has created an extremely well defined world here” – Nathan Ford, The Active Listener

“A melancholic hypnosis of painstaking beauty. The track weeps from start to finish and manages to conjure some next level, swirling soundscapes. This is all from just one man, lets not forget that…” Phill Walker, One For The People

The EP will be available in vinyl and download forms from February 11th, and you can also look out for a free download of ‘Silent Night’ to be made available on Christmas Day.
