Izakman Told Me: The Mind Behind ‘Cyber Love’

Described as a ‘vintage sci-fi fairy-tale infused adventure’, forward-thinking rocker Izakman’s latest LP ‘Cyber Love’ is truly something to behold. With an emphasis on psychedelic literature at its core, frontman/songwriter Itamar Isaak manages to conjure an entire world of his own through sounds that are deftly balanced between melancholy and wonder; we got chatting to the man himself to jump down the rabbit hole…

STM: When was the last time you discovered an artist through word of mouth?

Quite recently, actually! I met a friend at the dog park while taking my dog out, and he told me to watch “Inside” by Bo Burnham. It’s a musical documentary by a comedian who brilliantly combines music with comedy—I have been putting the songs on repeat ever since.

STM: How useful is the tool of ‘word of mouth’ when an artist is just starting their career?

That’s the way my friends and I all started. It starts as something you do with and for your friends, and as time goes by, your community grows and you try to expand.

STM: What were your first ‘tools of promotion’ when you first started in music?

I performed solo at Gagarin Club, an alternative music venue in Tel Aviv I have been closely connected with since they just started. I would warm up bands and join lineups whenever there was an event. In addition, I would help them out in renovating and designing flyers for different occasions. After naming myself Izakman, I started an artist page account and promoted my first single via Facebook like everyone nowadays.

STM: What made you choose the path of music?

Ever since I remember, music has been playing in my head. When I was ten, I studied piano from Miri Singer – a chamber musician. She enjoyed letting me improvise in her lessons, saying I don’t need to study composition since it came out of me naturally. My passion for music grew as I majored in arts in high school and later in animation school in Bezalel Academy for arts and design. Throughout my studies, I obsessively kept writing more and more songs and immediately after graduation created Izakman.

STM: What do you think the industry would look like without streaming platforms like Spotify?

I don’t know, but I assume it would be like before people started streaming; it would be based on album sales, whether physically or digitally.

STM: How would you describe the new album to someone that could not hear, using only images to describe the music?

A vintage sci-fi fairy-tale infused adventure –  a galactic voyage that blurs the distinction between reality and imagination, between cyberspace and outer space, between the past present and future. In other words, what The Beatles would have sounded like if they recorded music for Black Mirror.

STM: Do you have a general songwriting process or has it changed over time?

I don’t have a formula. It’s very intuitive. I sometimes start with a melody and sometimes with a sentence. Still, things begin to spark when I discover an image that leads to a narrative that excites me. My musical experience is also very visual.

STM: Do you have any immediate plans for touring of the new material at all?

I plan to contact festivals and producers, collaborate with more artists in shared events and grow a community. I’m still searching, and I hope promoting the new album will help me find the right connections.

STM: How do you think the pandemic has changed our idea of ‘communication’?

I think the term communication is becoming more and more associated with technology. The pandemic and the quarantines only increased our usage of phones and computers for interacting each other.

Cyber Love is available everywhere on 27/01/22

The Brazilian rock trio ‘Pentral’ hit new heights with their latest single ‘Aiming for the Sun’

Aiming for the Sun is Pentral’s latest single from their outstanding LP What Lies Ahead of Us. The track wastes no time in grabbing your attention, as the first second of this song includes a rapid, turbocharged guitar riff that is sure to blast through your walls. Aiming for the Sun also contains a thumping drum beat combined with intoxicating vocals that pierce straight into your heart.

“Aiming For The Sun” is a heavier song without leaving groove behind. It’s the second chapter of the couple’s saga, when the Amazon land-grabbers show their real face and what they are up to. Through its dark vibe and pulsating lines, this song tries to express a feeling of urgency, a claim for help, showcasing the agony of the people in the woods.” – Pentral

Passionate about the environment, Pentral’s LP is a concept album that tells the devastating tale of a disorientated family within a world of rage, greed and hatred that is destroying the amazon jungle. Pentral sees their music as a powerful way to spread universal messages of equality, anti-racism and anti-discrimination. The Brazilian trio consists of brothers Victor (Singer), Vagner Lima (Drums) and Joe Ferry (Bass Guitar). Their passion for all things rock and roll is almost as strong as their obsessive desire to create a safer and tranquil world for a new generation to be raised in.

This album is even more remarkable when taking into consideration that it was recorded during an international pandemic! Victor describes the LP’s recording process:

“The album was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic and it was a huge challenge wearing face masks almost every time. There was tension and fear among the musicians and engineers of getting infected. Besides that, the songs are not “straight”. Pentral uses a lot of uncommon and odd time signatures and harmonies, so it was pretty hard to record the final version of the tracks. Atmosphere, harmony, melody, groove and a strong message to make people think. For the band, this is what music is all about.” – Victor, Pentral

Blues Rockers Steady Rollin’ set to release exclusive UK remix of stunning single You’re Mystical

The Steady Rollin’ wave continues as the El Salvadorian band continue to rock the musical boat.

Hailing from the tiny Central American Republic of El Salvador, Steady Rollin’ have successfully reached the music pages and radio waves of America, Europe and beyond.

Their most recent release, You’re Mystical, quickly became a firm fan favourite.

Grooving and authentic, the track reminded us that Steady Rollin’ are raw rock talent, abandoning studio tricks and providing pure musical prowess

You’re Mystical gets a refresh with a hugely anticipated UK-exclusive remix by top DJ and producer, Elyse Rich (due for release on 16th October).

The track is a love song tinged with the fear of rejection. Singer and guitarist Fernando Poma, explains-

“It’s a love song about a long-married couple where the husband feels a bit insecure about his wife’s love for him. He takes her to a solitary cottage in the woods. He looks at her and feels so much love that just the depth of that love makes him so scared of losing her.

At one point he asks her to take a walk with him under the stars – he wants to see if the “stars are still shining” for HIM regarding her love for him. They get back into the house and he looks at her in the kitchen and can’t do anything but “sigh”. He loves her so much that he is afraid. He finds her truly mystical and otherworldly”.

The trio that make up Steady Rollin, Benjamin Andrade on drums and backing vocals, Gerardo Pardo on bass and Fernando Poma on guitar and lead vocals, have captured the ears and hearts of audiences across the globe.

Transcending borders, their outreach goes far and wide, establishing the bluesy rockers as ones to watch.

On top of the magical You’re Mystical remix, Steady Rollin’ have a full 10 track project in the works entitled ‘Love & Loss’.

‘Love & Loss’ is set for release on strictly limited-edition vinyl just in time for Christmas.

Steady Rollin’ are feeling alive and ready to show it

Steady Rollin’ make their mark with latest release ‘I Feel Alive’. The El Salvadorian trio have already made waves in the rock world, making their way into the music pages of America, Europe and beyond.

‘I Feel Alive’ comes off their first full release, titled ‘Love & Loss’, a 10-track masterpiece set to be released on a limited-edition vinyl just in time for Christmas. ‘Love & Loss’ tells the real life love-related stories of Steady Rollin’s singer and guitarist Fernando Poma. A musical talent who has been obsessed with music for as long as he can remember and has always known it to be his calling.

‘I Feel Alive’ oozes pure authenticity, the inspiration behind the track is explained by Fernando Poma

“I Feel Alive is a very innocent love song about two teenagers who meet each other randomly on a holiday and almost instantly fall in love and spend a whole night together dancing under the stars, going into a closed amusement park, before they each go their own way the following day”

Steady Rollin’ bring a unique talent to the table, with a classic rock sound that embraces playing their tracks in the live tradition of bands such as The Who and Cream. ‘I Feel Alive’ is the perfect track to tide you over until the release of their much anticipated project ‘Love &Loss’.

Fergus McKay and Nothing Concrete Ruffle Some Feathers with New Track

Rather like both The Waterboys and Dexy’s Midnight Runners, both of whom Fergus McKay and Nothing Concrete most closely resemble (as the crow flies, ba-dum-tish!), the minute you start to describe them and folk; soul; blues, the quicker you begin to question your haste in defining them. Fergus and his group of disparate followers are folk and blues in the sense they play ‘real’ instruments and sing whilst telling stories but also cabaret in presentation and country in parts…not to mention the dreaded “world” phrase. I could go on.
Though the novelty of tap-dancing female horn players will only paper over cracks in the songwriting for so long but Nothing Concrete do have a unique code for life which sets them aside from many other bands. Having rejected the capitalist roar of the metropolis, they (men, women and children) have relocated from their respective countries across Europe to gather in the foothills of the Pyrenees, surviving (how!?) without television and internet and enjoying a particularly continental Good Life of self-sufficiency. The songs are themselves orphans of sorts, gathered from folk tales and conversations as they travel to their rip-roaring live shows. Old Black Crow is your a-typical blues-folk romp with equal measure of humour and disaster, all viewed from the feathered bystander’s view.

Review: Anarchy Reigns' Hard and Heavy Tune 'Hypocrisy'

With social divide, negative political impact and war raging on, people look to leaders, artists and professionals to guide them into the light, and this time Anarchy Reigns are taking a shot at being the voice of the people.
The new track ‘Hypocrisy’ is a gritty, politically charged, fury fueled anthem. The boys from Anarchy Reigns have constructed an opus which is fantastically delivered, and received with open arms.

The heavy gain and volume turned up to 11, the phat and fuzzy classic metal sounds and the melodic sorcery that hitch so brilliantly conveys, all come together to make this track, and we are so glad that they did.
Be sure to check out the track as well as all the other great content coming from the Anarchy Reigns camp:

Review: Cholesterol Jones Officially Reveals That 'Satans In Heaven'

To some, it may feel like a bold statement to say that Satan himself is residing in heaven, however, to Cholesterol Jones its just plain truth.
The folk singer has released a track that expresses his opinion on the election of Donald trump. The metaphor behind the name entertains is the idea that someone who is destructive and unfair, is now ruling the USA. Donald being Satan, Heaven being the US.

The track itself is an ensemble of acoustic folk, with light instrumentation and the inclusion of a gospel singer, giving it the ultimate feel.
The song is available now, so be sure to check it out.
