Judith Haustein’s New Album ‘The Flood’ Delivers A Wave of Heart-Wrenching Artistry

Drawing you in with her soothing guitar and beautiful vocals, Judith Haustein’s new song ‘Freeze’ encapsulates compassion and truth. Belonging to the twelve track album, ‘The Flood’, Haustein explores natural imagery such as the ocean which the mastery of the instruments mimics. She was inspired by artists such as Bjork, James Blake and Joni Mitchell yet ‘The Flood’ was personally inspired by Haustein’s recovery from PTSD: “I take a lot of inspiration from extreme landscapes and being by the sea – also most of the songs are connected to what trauma victims experience emotionally when trying to reconnect with the world. Reconnecting with her authenticity, no matter how painful, bore the creative fruit of the album and perhaps its unique sound.”

Even if the listener is not suffering from the same condition the emotion that floods through the album is just as effective in affecting the soul. This is poignant in ‘Freeze’ and the listener can almost imagine being by the sea in the way the instruments rise and fall like the swell of the tides. ‘Freeze’ also introduces hip-hop elements which work surprisingly well with the gentle notes of the song and Haustein’s soulful vocals. The song opens with light strums of a guitar before Haustein’s voice joins to create an artistic masterpiece with a strong emotional message. Each song off the album is perfectly unique whilst retaining the overall beautiful delivery. She uses a vast range of styles and instruments with serene string sections and calm guitar solos. The relation to the ocean is evident and creates a vivid image resulting in a hugely cathartic listening experience.

As Songwriting Spotlight says, “Judith sings directly to you and the incredible production creates a soundscape to envelope you in her sound”

The Flood certainly delivers on this and takes the listener on a journey of authenticity and emotive introspection. Each song creates a new experience that never fails to surprise and titillate, reflecting the eddying voyage of thoughts.

The Fabulous Red Diesel’s ‘The Queensbury House Sessions’ is an incredible modern-soul jazz release

A collective quite unlike any other you’ll come across, The Fabulous Red Diesel are innovative and creating music without a specific label. Quirky and armed with everything you’d want from a ‘soul meets jazz collective’, ‘The Queensbury House Sessions’ is for fans of Madeline Peyroux, Joni Mitchell & even Frank Zappa.

With leading single ‘Butterfly Mind’ telling the tale of how true love remains a constant factor in life, no matter where your mind may drift to. On the release, vocalist Kat Lee-Ryan mentioned, “it’s about the way my brain works and the way music flits from one person to another, changing their perception (hopefully for the better) by tiny inspirational touches. And then it’s also a love song – I am married to the drummer and I’m saying no matter how many twists and turns and expansions my mind has, I am always grounded in him – you know I’ve got a butterfly mind but I settle on you.”

Uplifting and showcasing real potential in the world of soul-jazz and even funk and hip-hop, The Fabulous Red Diesel are a band that should be on everyone’s playlists.

A dose of French electro-swing with ‘Alors Je Danse’ – the latest dance track from No-Ce and her band

After a successful run at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Cecile Nordegg (No-Ce) and her band have taken their unique mélange of Edith Piaf-esque chanson and Frank Zappa musical stylings to yet another unexpected destination – dance,

Alors Je Danse is their first release from the forthcoming album and sees them adapting their sound to a more electronic genre, an adaptation that is flawless in its transition. The track is carried by Cécile’s rich vocals and flirts stylistically with the wave of electro-swing that combines the elements of jazz and electronic melodies – a combination that has the demanding effect of dance.

Previously a successful film and TV actor, Cécile is backed by a band of outstanding musicians who have already made names for themselves: JP Chiche on guitar and background vocals (previously having shared the stage with everyone from Aerosmith to Fats Domino) and Andreas Pirringer on sax, flute and clarinet and Walter Bass on piano – just to name a few.

Their previous release, Jazz Proclamation Vol. 1&2 was a collection of tracks which transcended language and genre and Alors Je Danse looks set to achieve similar cross-over success with fans of dance music.

Its Time We All Learnt A Little Bit About Lawrence Preston

With the recent release of brand new single ‘Something For You’, we trace it all back to see where Lawrence really found his talents.
Born in the 50’s, in the San Francisco bay area, Lawrence’s love for music grew early on,  when he joined his parents in the gospel band known as ‘The Sensational Travelers’. They would practice in his grandfathers old Victorian Church every Saturday night.
This then led on to a bigger responsibility for Lawrence, when he was asked to join another family band known as the ‘Fantastic Four’, which he fronted, at the age  of 5!
Through his experiences in the music industry at this time, he gained love for instruments such as guitar and Trombone, however, there was an instrument that was calling his name, the bass would later on be a trademark for the singer-songwriter.
While being asked to join band and groups such as Dorothy Morrison’s gospel band, which he contributed bass to for much of the early 80’s.

Now ready to push his solo releases, Lawrence has recorded and produced his own material such as ‘Driving me away’ and brand new track ‘Something For You’.

Review: Belle Chen Live-A Beautifully Unique Experience

Last night I attended Belle Chen’s performance at the Senate House in London, and I was truly amazed.
Before I go into all of the details that bring the talent and skill that Belle possesses to light, I have to say that this was an enjoyable and interesting event.
As part of the Bloomsbury Festival in London, Belle Chen delivered new and fresh tools to give her performance meaning and relevancy. The use of sound effects, and body movement were key to bringing the overall show together, with accompaniment from interpretive dancer Anastasia Kostner, moving with the mood of the music.
Telling a story of Paris and a taking the audience on a journey through the city of Paris, Belle Chen captured the chaos and emotion, as well as soft, relaxed and quaint surrounding of the French city. Belle Chen’s delicate touch shined through as a beautiful addition, however, the inclusion of a loop pedal, recording rhythms played on the piano, and other accompanying tools and tricks were brand new to my eyes, giving her unique style.
During the performance there were very few times that she would actually speak, however when she did, the words she did say resonated with me deeply. My Favourite quote being “I was told that if you ever missed someone, then you should look to the moon, because the person you miss could be looking at the same moon”
With her brand new album ‘Mademoiselle’ recently coming out, this was a great event to support its release.
Overall, this was a classy, emotional and extremely well-arranged show, that had meaning and purpose.
