Fynbos: The Only One – Single Review

Yearning weaves itself into every ounce of ‘Fynbos’s new song. From India to the UK and through the trials of life, we have the birth of ‘The Only One’ come out the other side. This is a single that does anything but neglect the rich emotional history that anyone can find within themselves, because as a listener you fall into the melody and become one, now serving as a medium of harmonious empathy.

‘Fynbos’ welcomes you into the space of this song from the offset, constructing the evocative sensation of floating around the cosmos. He sings to the melody like it’s his romantic partner, meaning that when paired with the sensational reverbed guitar, you feel embraced and catered to. You feel loved. Having this element at the structural core of the song is why it makes you so empathic, so swept away, and ‘Fynbos’ only enhances this further with his hypnotic chorus.

Ignited by the underscore of restrained drums, the choral voices singing ‘you’re the only one’ create an untouchable pulse that you are transfixed by, brought to life by the subdued bass. ‘Fynbos’ knows that everyone has a story of isolation, of feeling too far away from loved ones, and so he creates this song to bring the characters in all those stories back together to create one big heartbeat. If you can’t do it on earth, then at least you can do it in this effervescent dream he has constructed for you. That you have constructed. This heartbeat is inextinguishable, and gives you hope and comfort as a result, despite the unmissable undertone of melancholy.

The song fades out on this experience of endless spinning, as if you will never have to be let go again. An abrupt ending would have destroyed this, but ‘The Only One’ let’s you take this with you into the rest of your day, week, year, and even life, because it understands that shaking desperation that forms the foundation of the human existence.

LearningToDive transport us back to 1980s musical greatness with their latest single “You Said It Best”

With the release of “You Said It Best”, LearningToDive have expanded their distinctive sound following the critical appreciation of their previous album “Norwegian Pop”. LearningToDive has successfully mixed everything great about 1980s music along with soulful, melodic soliloquies with profound thought and meaning.

‘You Said It Best’ is an uplifting, heartwarming message incorporating themes of
self-acceptance, forgiveness and gratitude, and is about coming back to one’s roots and working out what really matters.”

The magician behind the music is Bravo Bonez, whose decision was to not release this brilliant song as part of their previous album, “Norwegian Pop”. The track “You Said it Best” is a hypnotic concoction of Sophisti-pop and country that would not have complimented the album’s deep connections to 80s indie, post-punk rock artists such as Echo and the Bunnymen.

The public are already catching on to LearningToDive’s exceptional musical talents, having amassed over 10,000 Spotify listeners. This is a single you absolutely do not want to miss!

David Omlor reawakens 60’s guitar music with the exhilarating folk-Debut LP “Entropy”

David Omlor has just released his eagerly awaited debut album “Entropy” to a glistening reception from ‘The Ark of Music’ & ‘SleepingBagStudios’. David Omlor has delivered a scintillating album that is both a nostalgic throwback to 60s folk-rock and a progressive contemporary piece of art.

Omlor wastes no time in grabbing your attention, with the album opener ‘Let You Know’ delivering an irresistibly captivating guitar riff and melody that you won’t be able to rub out of your ears. The album’s second track, ‘Truth’ is a tranquil song with a gentle acoustic guitar alongside a tender electric guitar riff, reminiscent of Gary Moore’s ‘Parisienne Walkways’ beautifully melodic guitar riff. The entire album was recorded during the tumultuous year of 2020, but Omlor has used his valuable free time to construct this excellent record. Omlor states:

“During the complete insanity that was 2020 I locked myself in and created a solo record titled Entropy. Through the magic of modern technologies like Dropbox and Zoom I was able to collaborate with amazing musicians from all over the US to put together nine songs that try to make sense of an extremely strange and difficult time and come out of that darkness with some hope.”David Omlor

My favourite tracks from “Entropy” are the beautifully melancholic “Ghosts in Oklahoma” and ‘Surprised’ which takes the listener on a leisurely stroll through a tale of finding someone you love.

Omlor’s influences include such greats as Jason Isbell, Aimee Mann, George Harrison and the folk-rock legend Bob Dylan. Music is Omlar’s enduring passion, and he is currently a member of the sensational US band Benjamin Road who have played countless shows all over America. “Entropy” is Omlar’s first step into the world of being a solo artist, and I certainly cannot wait to see what other music he has in store for us. Go check out “Entropy” if you haven’t already.

Vanderocker releases new psychedelic indie EP ‘The Good Punk’

Adrienne Vanderocker aka the mastermind behind indie music project Vanderocker returns with an exotic new EP. Titled ‘The Good Punk‘, the EP features four brand-new numbers bathed in psychedelia, indie, electro-pop with experimental touches and one instrumental bonus track.

Touching upon themes of sex, voyeurism and duality, Vanderocker collaborates with producer Brandon Eggleston on the release. With a string of note-worthy guest artists on the EP too – Federico Pol Jr (Joe Cocker), Peter Holmström (The Dandy Warhols, PIA) and Brendan Bond (Black Pumas) all feature on the new release.

An eccentric record which showcases that experimental music is far from over, if anything, it’s still at the beginning of its realm.

On the new soundtrack, Vanderocker states, “In my mind, it’s a basic study of humans on different levels, almost from an Alien National Geographic kind of perspective. ‘Here is Earth, a most beautiful place and here are the alluring creatures who call themselves human beings. Let’s observe them when they are just in their bodies.

Now look how they change when they interact with other groups’ – like a typical lab observation, right? Which is interesting in itself; but then of course, we have to look at how amazingly powerful humans can be when they disengage from the drama and plug into something bigger than themselves. I find comfort in all of it, when I can step back and observe us the way a newcomer might.”

Released via Mint 400 Records, ‘The Good Punk’ is a versatile soundscape with a large amount of vibrance to it’s core. Vanderocker is definitely an artist that you should keep on your playlists from here on out.

Father-son duo ‘Uneven Stevens’ hit headlines, proving how music PR companies are here to help.

Made redundant last summer, Richard Stevens was left without work. In a stressful situation, his son Oscar decided that they should write a song to send to employers asking them to look beyond the CV and at the person behind the paper.

Amazingly, after hearing ‘Paper Me’, one employer hired Richard Stevens, who now finally has a job after 200 failed applications.

The father-son duo also asked music PR company Quite Great to listen to their song. As an unsigned, one-song band, Uneven Stevens were likely to receive little recognition, but after hearing the heartwarming story, Quite Great gave the band the platform they deserved.

Now, Richard’s story of finding employment through music has reached the upper echelons of UK and Irish press. With headlines in The Scottish HeraldThe Belfast Telegraph and ITV News, as well as broadsheet mentions in The Metro, The Sun and The Star, Uneven Stevens have proven why unsigned artists should always reach out to music PR companies like Quite Great.

‘Paper Me’, and the touching story behind it, is the definition of a feel-good tune and a great example of the music industry pulling together in hard times.

Born and raised in Cannes France before studying in New York and eventually settling in London, Théa Marie is undeniably a well travelled talent. This diverse life experience and influence is what gives Thèa’s sound an authentic and rare tone.

Then is an 8-track project composed of soulful indie-pop tracks infused with Thèa’s original sense of flair and style. The album’s lead single Start Of Us is a catchy, infectious indie single that is sure to propel Thea to the next level of stardom.

Thèa labels her musical direction as Retro-Soul, with project Then centred around the theme of nostalgia. Thea explains-

“It’s all about being reluctant to grow up because childhood memories are so appealing and simple. Every song relates to a memory or emotions that have led me to feel bitter about growing up and being nostalgic for those more innocent times. For example, Sleepy Summer is about not wanting summer to end and dreading to have to go back to work; Don’t Walk Away was inspired by a dream where I was telling my younger self not to abandon me; Times of My Life is about pleading to bring back the simplicity of my childhood to my present. Most of the songs were written and inspired by my shift to becoming independent”.

Théa Marie oozes quality and authenticity, a true talent and an exciting future female star in the indie pop genre.

Debut album Then has the rare power to take us back, reminiscent and powerful this project is not to be missed. Then is set for release on 28th August, get excited and get ready.

London-based Indie rockers Bromide announce new single ‘Magic Coins’

Depicted as the lovechild of Bob Mould, Grant Hart and Dinosaur Jr., London three-piece Bromide are making their mark in the modern alt-rock landscape in presenting their new 2-track single Magic Coins – a track that will pleasantly haunt you in the same way as when you first heard Sugar’s ‘If I Can’t Change Your Mind’ or even Lemonhead’s epic album ‘It’s a Shame About Ray’

https://soundcloud.com/bromideofficial/magic-coins

Accompanied by ‘Always Now’  as its b-side, ‘Magic Coins’ is an unexpected rhythm track that is seemingly drum and bass-inspired, written collectively by all three band members.

Lead-vocalist and guitar Simon Berridge commented that “Magic Coins is a good example of how being in a band can take things off in directions you’d never expect. I’d been trawling Youtube one night and on my travels come across Susan Boyle’s gobsmacking debut performance on ‘X Factor’ and a thumping AC/DC gig from Oakland Coliseum, California in ’79. Both had made me think about the nature of performance and invisible energy release and so I put this into a new song I was writing “I wanna stand in their shoes. Tell me what it is I have to do.”

This single follows the album ‘I Woke Up, released in the summer of 2018, and the ‘I Remember’ album previous to that. In that time, they have won over news fans including Gideon Coe at BBC 6 Music, who has called their music ‘Fantastic’ and says their latest single ‘Two Song Slot is ‘a mighty fine tune’, playing these tracks numerous times over several months.
