Bruce Williamson, best known as the former frontman of legendary soul group The Temptations, has died aged 49.

The singer died on Sunday (September 6) at his home in Las Vegas after battling the coronavirus, TMZ reports.

Williamson’s death was confirmed by his son, who paid tribute to his father on social media.

“There’s no words in the world that can express how I feel right now,” Bruce Williamson Jr. wrote on Facebook. “I love you Daddy thank you for being awesome thank you for being loving thank you for being who you are I pray to God and we will meet again.”

Born on September 28, 1970, in Compton, California, Williamson joined The Temptations in 2006 and performed with the group until 2015, singing lead on their albums ‘Back To The Front’ and ‘Still Here’.

He was also a part of the group, known for their iconic hits ‘My Girl’, ‘The Way You Do The Things You Do’ and ‘Get Ready’, when President George W. Bush invited them to perform at the White House for a celebration of Black History Month in February 2008.

Speaking in a 2013 interview, Williamson credited his background in the church for creating the foundation for him to become a member of The Temptations.

“After seven years as a Temptation I am still in awe,” he said at the time, “and I can remember the first time I performed with the group: at a millionaire’s private birthday party, on a small stage that was erected on his tennis courts.”

Thoughts are with his family, friends and fans at this difficult time.

Triller hits Number 1 on the App store, but should TikTok be worried?

Original Article

It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that Los Angeles-based Triller, a company in the process of raising between $200m and $300m to fuel its expansion – having previously secured a roster of investors ranging from Snoop Dogg to Marshmello manager Moe Shalizi – might be spending a few dollars on marketing.

Especially so when you learn that the company issued a press release on Sunday (August 2), citing data from analytics firm Sensor Tower, to announce that its app has hit No.1 in all categories on the App store in 50 countries this week, including the United States, UK, Brazil, Germany, France and Australia.

Yet this feat, according to a LinkedIn post published by Triller CEO Mike Lu yesterday (August 4), was achieved “with $0 marketing spend”.

Triller also revealed in its press release that it seen its number of user downloads increase by over 20 times in the last week alone, reaching over 250 million downloads worldwide.

This news follows Triller’s significant growth in India after TikTok was banned the market, where Triller also claimed to have not spent “a dime” on marketing.

Triller’s growth in the US in particular follows several challenging weeks for its key rival TikTok, which is potentially facing a ban in the market by September 15.

Microsoft currently in talks to acquire the ByteDance-owned app, and US president Donald Trump is demanding a cut of those proceeds to be paid to the US Treasury.

In addition, Triller filed a lawsuit against TikTok last week for patent infringement.

Triller also announced last week that Josh Richards, a TikTok star with over 20m followers, has been appointed as the company’s Chief Strategy Officer, and will be transitioning from TikTok to Triller, citing concerns about how the app manages user data.

This successful expansion from Triller begs the question, should TikTok be worried? Both platforms follow the same basic format, short form video to audio sharing.

With TikTok facing immense pressure from Trump, and undeniable threat to their US presence, could this be the perfect opportunity for Triller to swoop in and dominate the market?

Supporting Life Through Music – A Truly Noble Cause

Every now again, a story comes my way that is so moving, and so inspiring, it completely changes my outlook on, well, pretty much everything… This is exactly what happened as I sat and read about The Celebration of Life, Demelza and a little boy called Jaden.
Sadly, Jaden suffers from a terminal brain disease, and his parents were initially told by doctors that he wouldn’t live long. However, to the complete delight of his family and everyone who knew his story, Jaden celebrated his 11th birthday in August, and the care he received at the hospice run by Demelza was instrumental to this.
Learn more about the work Demelza Hospice does here:
A huge part of this care was music, and this is where the guys at the Celebration of Life come in.
Watch the documentary about the project here:
The Celebration of Life is a fundraising project started by a group of producers from the jungle, drum & bass, reggae and dance worlds (some of Jaden’s favourite genres) who were moved by his story; Potential Badboy; Demolition Man; Jr. Dangerous; Navigator; Tippa Irie; General Levy; Alaska MC and Cowboy Ranger. They have come together to produce a song, and music video called “Celebrate Life”. The track has been described as ”an uplifting, beat-heavy, furiously catchy song which is aimed at all those struggling in situations beyond their control and showcases some of the best in UK musical talent from the last twenty five years, in a completely unique coming together of genre.”
Watch the video to “Celebrate Life” here:
To promote the release of the track, the guys will be headlining Jungle Fever at the Ministry of Sound on the 22nd of September and all proceeds will go straight to Demelza and the hospices so they can continue their amazing, important work.

Twinwood Festival set for August 2015

The original and best vintage music and dance festival:

Twinwood Festival set  for August 2015

After its huge success last year, the UK’s largest vintage music and dance extravaganza, Twinwood Festival will return to Twinwood Arena in Clapham, Bedfordshire this summer. It will be the event’s 14th year, held over the weekend of 29th-31st August, and it’s set to be the biggest yet, with countless attractions for festival goers who visit from all over the world.

For a taste of what the weekend has in store, check out some clips from last year’s festival:

As ever, the festival will be a haven for music lovers who have an appreciation for good popular retro music. With 60 live bands playing music through the decades over 11 venues, including the centrepiece outdoor arena, festivalgoers are spoilt for choice. The bands and artists will include the excellent Si Cranstoun, The London Swing Orchestra, 60s group The Overtures, Rock ‘n’ Roll band Joey and the Jivers, The Revolutionaires big band and many, many more class acts. From the classic days of Charlston, through the 40s to the rock and roll of the 50s and the music of the swinging 60s, the range of acts is vast – right the way through to electro-swing acts that blend tradition with modernity.

With so much choice, it’s just as well all the venues have acres of sprung dance floors which reverberate to the beat of the music, and after you’ve been to the retro dance lessons that will be available across the weekend, taking in swing dancing, modern jive, rock and roll, the jitterbug and plenty more besides, you’ll be on the floors as well.

To help set the scene, Twinwood Festival Village will also be filled with over 100 vintage traders selling fabulous fashions and collectables, plus there will be flying displays, classic vehicles and museums to feast your eyes on. There will even be a choice of hair and beauty salons to make sure you look the part.

Other live entertainment will include comedy and vintage fashion shows, and a host of music bars and eclectic food outlets serving a great range of food and drink throughout.

Last but not least, 2015 sees the return, for only the second year, of the Mr and Miss Vintage UK competition, which will crown those who have most accurately captured the look and spirit of the festival. The contest is one of the centre pieces of the whole weekend, where the winners go home with exclusive prizes presented by Twinwood’s special guest star Anita Harris.

Fantastic camping for caravans, motor homes and tents is provided next to the Festival Village and five nights stay, with good facilities, is available to 3 day ticket holders at a great price.

Also non camping festival goers will be able to buy tickets for individual days as well as 3-day weekend tickets.
