Trey Songz accused of Sexual Misconduct

Original Article

Trey Songz has responded after he was accused of sexual misconduct.

The allegations emerged after a woman, known only as ‘Aliza’, alleged that a celebrity had urinated on her during a sexual encounter without her consent, and then refused to let her leave the room.

After remarking “I didn’t know what was happening, he just did it” on the No Jumper podcast, she later went on to identify Songz as the man in question.

Responding to the claims on Twitter, Songz wrote: “I usually stay quiet on this but I feel that in many ways the movement to fight for the women who actually have suffered harassment and abuse on various levels, has been hijacked by those who find it convenient for themselves to come up as they seek to destroy someone’s life.

“I brush it off every time but once you have an allegation no matter it’s true weight in validation, it’s now happened once and to some will be believable from that moment forward. None of that happened.”

Let’s hope victims received the support they deserve and the industry gets to the bottom of these allegations.

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s WAP is a record breaker

Original Article

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s collaboration ‘WAP’ has broken the US record for the most first-week streams for a song.

The track was confirmed as being the new US number one on the Hot 100 by Billboard yesterday (August 17), earning Cardi her fourth US number one single and Megan her second.

‘WAP’ drew 93 million US streams in the week ending August 13, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data — the most for any track ever in its first week of release, surpassing Ariana Grande’s 85.3 million first-week streams for ‘7 Rings’ that she amassed back in February 2019.

Cardi and Megan’s collaboration is also the fourth Hot 100 number one in 2020 to be credited to two or more women (and no other billed acts), joining Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s ‘Rain On Me’, Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Savage’ featuring Beyoncé and Doja Cat‘s ‘Say So’ featuring Nicki Minaj.

WAP has been a controversial single to say the least, yet Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have proven its commercial viability despite the explicit nature of the song. Here’s to more number ones for powerful female duos.

Triller hits Number 1 on the App store, but should TikTok be worried?

Original Article

It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that Los Angeles-based Triller, a company in the process of raising between $200m and $300m to fuel its expansion – having previously secured a roster of investors ranging from Snoop Dogg to Marshmello manager Moe Shalizi – might be spending a few dollars on marketing.

Especially so when you learn that the company issued a press release on Sunday (August 2), citing data from analytics firm Sensor Tower, to announce that its app has hit No.1 in all categories on the App store in 50 countries this week, including the United States, UK, Brazil, Germany, France and Australia.

Yet this feat, according to a LinkedIn post published by Triller CEO Mike Lu yesterday (August 4), was achieved “with $0 marketing spend”.

Triller also revealed in its press release that it seen its number of user downloads increase by over 20 times in the last week alone, reaching over 250 million downloads worldwide.

This news follows Triller’s significant growth in India after TikTok was banned the market, where Triller also claimed to have not spent “a dime” on marketing.

Triller’s growth in the US in particular follows several challenging weeks for its key rival TikTok, which is potentially facing a ban in the market by September 15.

Microsoft currently in talks to acquire the ByteDance-owned app, and US president Donald Trump is demanding a cut of those proceeds to be paid to the US Treasury.

In addition, Triller filed a lawsuit against TikTok last week for patent infringement.

Triller also announced last week that Josh Richards, a TikTok star with over 20m followers, has been appointed as the company’s Chief Strategy Officer, and will be transitioning from TikTok to Triller, citing concerns about how the app manages user data.

This successful expansion from Triller begs the question, should TikTok be worried? Both platforms follow the same basic format, short form video to audio sharing.

With TikTok facing immense pressure from Trump, and undeniable threat to their US presence, could this be the perfect opportunity for Triller to swoop in and dominate the market?

Then is an 8-track project composed of soulful indie-pop tracks infused with Thèa’s original sense of flair and style. The album’s lead single Start Of Us is a catchy, infectious indie single that is sure to propel Thea to the next level of stardom.

Thèa labels her musical direction as Retro-Soul, with project Then centred around the theme of nostalgia. Thea explains-

“It’s all about being reluctant to grow up because childhood memories are so appealing and simple. Every song relates to a memory or emotions that have led me to feel bitter about growing up and being nostalgic for those more innocent times. For example, Sleepy Summer is about not wanting summer to end and dreading to have to go back to work; Don’t Walk Away was inspired by a dream where I was telling my younger self not to abandon me; Times of My Life is about pleading to bring back the simplicity of my childhood to my present. Most of the songs were written and inspired by my shift to becoming independent”.

Théa Marie oozes quality and authenticity, a true talent and an exciting future female star in the indie pop genre.

Debut album Then has the rare power to take us back, reminiscent and powerful this project is not to be missed. Then is set for release on 28th August, get excited and get ready.

#LetTheMusicPlay continues its campaign to protect UK Live Music

Original Article

Figures from the music industry are adding more volume to the #LetTheMusicPlay campaign to demand that the government share arts funding to protect the future of artists, touring crew, and the individuals working behind the scenes.

Last month, more than 1,500 artists and industry figures came together to call on the government to stop “catastrophic damage” to live music amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the launch of the #LetTheMusicPlay campaign.

After months of campaigning from fans and the world of music, the UK government revealed plans for an unprecedented cash injection of £1.57 billion to help the arts, culture and heritage industries survive the impact of closures brought on by coronavirus – providing music venues, independent cinemas, museums, galleries, theatres and heritage sites with emergency grants and loans.

While the relief for venues was welcome, many warned that without urgent government clarity, support and action, the pipeline of talent that plays within them could be cut short – declaring that musicians and crew were facing their “biggest crisis since the 1920s” without support.

It is essential that this momentum is maintained and the fight to protect UK live music is continued. Independent Music and entertainment venues hold huge historical and sentimental importance to the industry, artists and fans nationwide. We hope support for the #LetTheMusicPlay campaign continues.
